Three regions of pure North. Galicia coast, the Asturian Atlantic, and the Picos de Europa massif — arguably the best motorcycle riding in Europe. For riders who want the mountains as the main course, with the coast for warm-up and the inland Camino as the closer.

Arrival & welcome · Vigo/Nigrán

Airport transfer · Evening

Route: 45-minute orientation: bike, panniers, GPS, route briefing, gear check.

Highlights: Welcome dinner in Vigo with the route walk-through.

Hotel: Vigo/Nigrán.

Pickup: Santiago de Compostela (SCQ) or Porto (OPO) airport; transfer to Vigo/Nigrán.

1

Costa da Morte warm-up · Vigo/Nigrán → Fisterra → Santiago

~350 km · 5–6 hours

Route: AC-543 to Negreira, AC-552 along the wild Atlantic to Cabo Fisterra. Return inland via Brion.

Highlights: Cabo Fisterra lighthouse at the end of the world. The granite hórreos of Combarro. Coastal sweepers to settle into the bike.

Recommended: O Centolo in Fisterra — seafood at the cape.

Difficulty: Easy. Warm-up day before the long push north.

Hotel: Vigo/Nigrán (return). Half-board.

To the north coast · Vigo/Nigrán → Lugo → Ribadeo

~310 km · 4–5 hours

Route: East via N-547 to Lugo (Roman walls), then N-640 north to Ribadeo on the Galicia/Asturias border.

Highlights: Lugo’s intact Roman walls (UNESCO World Heritage), the Eo estuary at Ribadeo, the famous Praia das Catedrais.

Recommended: Lugo old town — Mesón de Alberto for classic Galician.

Difficulty: Moderate. Mix of highway and back roads.

Hotel: Ribadeo. Half-board.

Asturian coast · Ribadeo → Luarca → Gijón → Llanes

~250 km · 5 hours

Route: Along the N-634 and small coastal roads through Luarca, Cudillero (painted fishing village), Gijón, and east to Llanes.

Highlights: Luarca old port, Cudillero’s vertical color, the Gijón seafront, the dramatic coast east of Ribadesella.

Recommended: Cudillero — any seafront pulpería.

Difficulty: Moderate. Coastal sweepers, several climbs and descents.

Hotel: Llanes (Asturias). Half-board.

Into the Picos de Europa · Llanes → Cangas de Onís → Potes

~180 km · 4–5 hours

Route: Inland from Llanes via Covadonga sanctuary + lakes detour, through the Picos via Panes, then south to Potes on the southern flank via the Desfiladero de la Hermida gorge.

Highlights: Covadonga lakes (one of the most photographed views in Spain), the Hermida gorge (one of Europe’s great motorcycle canyons), Potes village.

Recommended: Restaurante La Cabaña Asturiana en route, or Casa Cayo in Potes.

Difficulty: Challenging. Mountain switchbacks, tight gorge sections. Some of the best riding of the trip.

Hotel: Fuente Dé (Picos de Europa). Half-board.

Picos rest day · Fuente Dé cable car & Liébana loop

~80–120 km optional · Easy day

Route: Fuente Dé cable car up to the high peaks (2,000m+ views) in the morning. Afternoon ride to Lebeña Romanesque church and the Mirador del Cable. Or rest entirely.

Highlights: Fuente Dé cable car summit views, the Liébana valley, the 10th-century Mozarabic church of Lebeña, mountain villages.

Recommended: Mesón Aliva at the cable car summit, or Casa Cayo in Potes.

Difficulty: Whatever you want it to be.

Hotel: Fuente Dé (Picos de Europa) (return). Half-board.

South over the mountains · Potes → Riaño → León

~280 km · 5–6 hours

Route: South from Potes via the spectacular CL-627 over the San Glorio pass, down to the Riaño reservoir, then west on N-621 to León.

Highlights: San Glorio pass (1,609m), Riaño reservoir (“the Norwegian fjord of Spain”), Cordillera Cantábrica scenery, León cathedral and old town in the evening.

Recommended: Mirador in Riaño on the reservoir, or any roadside parrillada.

Difficulty: Moderate–challenging. A high mountain pass with cool weather even in summer.

Hotel: León. Half-board.

Back to Galicia on the Camino · León → O Cebreiro → Lugo

~280 km · 5–6 hours

Route: West on N-120 across the Bierzo wine region, climb the O Cebreiro pass (the Camino de Santiago’s gateway into Galicia), down to Lugo through Sarria.

Highlights: Astorga’s cathedral and Gaudí palace, the Bierzo wine country, the legendary climb to O Cebreiro, the stone pallozas at the summit.

Recommended: Astorga — Las Termas for cocido maragato (you’ll regret nothing).

Difficulty: Moderate. The Camino in reverse on two wheels.

Hotel: Lugo. Half-board.

8

Final ride home · Lugo → Santiago

~190 km · 2–3 hours

Route: West on the N-547 / A-54 through the rolling Galician countryside, easy ride to Santiago. Afternoon free in the old town.

Highlights: Final pass through Galician hill country. Afternoon free to walk the Praza do Obradoiro and watch the pilgrims arrive.

Recommended: Casa Marcelo in Santiago — Michelin-starred informal masterpiece.

Difficulty: Easy. Wrap-up day.

Hotel: Vigo/Nigrán. Farewell dinner together in Vigo.

Drop-off · Vigo/Nigrán

Airport transfer · Morning

Route: Transfer to SCQ or OPO airport for outbound flight.

Highlights: Optional: extend in Santiago to attend the Pilgrim’s Mass and see the botafumeiro swing.

Bike drop: Morning return at the rental office, paperwork, final coffee.
